For Unlimited Work, Unless the Power is Out, I borrowed the sewing machine my grandmother used to use soon after she passed away, in conjunction with a shoe I used to wear. The Converse Chuck Taylor is filled with cement, pressing on the sewing machine pedal, which drives the sewing machine to sew an endless loop of fabric. The machine was working non-stop until it became dysfunctional.
In this work, I borrowed two significant items related to two different generations with a significant gap in between. Unlimited Work, Unless the Power is Out, signifies the constant feeling of the need to follow past generations’ cultures, which is a very important quality where I grew up.
